Nature is all around us, but sometimes it helps to have an experienced guide help you see a little more. If you want a meaningful nature experience for your group, Wayfinder is the place to go.

Wayfinder has detailed ecology and naturalist knowledge, and decades of experience as an outdoor guide. If you want to know more than the names of plants and animals, but to also understand why it all matters and how the pieces fit together, please reach out.

Nature & Science Education

  • Guided Walks and Nature Workshops

A walk in the woods can be so much more that just a movement of the legs.

If you want to see more, make sense of nature’s patterns, learn a bit more about the plants around you, or become more sensitized to the rhythms of nature, Wayfinder can design something for you.

Developing knowledge about the way nature functions is one part learning science (aka the observations of others) and another part observing for yourself.

Nature workshops delve into important ecological themes and provide hands-on experience with the topic at hand. Themes include: Flows of Nature; Diversity; Edges & Limits; and Disturbance & Resilience.

  • Teen Science Camps

Wayfinder leads teens through field science projects that connect them to the land and water and instill strong science skills.

Teens can work on an investigation of your choosing, or I will help them design their own questions and methods.

Investigations result in report-outs that suit the needs of the group.

Here you can see the reports and presentations created by the Three Lakes Association Aquatic Science High School Internship, which Wayfinder led in 2023 and 2024

  • Nature Drawing

Drawing is the best way I have found to really see. To capture the exact shape or color on paper, you need to look very closely.

Simple sketches and watercolors capture the essence of wild plants, plant communities, and intriguing scenes.

Follow this link to see some of my artwork and determine if my style and repertoire fit your needs. I have been published in Vermont Kids, 7Days Vermont, Northern Woodlands and A Practical Guide to Nature Study.

I can also guide meet-ups with interested folks so we can sketch and paint together. I provide basic tips for nature drawing, but mostly we just look and draw together with a sketchbook, simple tools, a place to sit, and something beautiful to observe.

I spent the better part of 20 years working with folks outdoors and teaching about ecology. I’d love to talk with you about a fresh possibility that you are considering!

“The internship was one of my favorite things that I did over the summer. It was very hands on, so it was never boring and going onto the lakes was very fun. The internship was also very educational and I learned a lot about the lakes. Writing the research paper and presenting gave me good experience for the future.”
